The Real Alaska Tour
Seward, Alaska This Seward tour package features all the attractions that truly make Alaska the Greatland. First, your guide shows you the sights of Seward. Learn why Seward was known as "the Gateway to Alaska" and "Mile 0" of the Iditarod Trail. See first-hand the effects of the 1964 Earthquake. Then, head out to Exit Glacier and enjoy a short walk along the nature trail that takes you to the face of the glacial ice. Watch for mountain goats, moose and bears. A hearty lunch will be served before you travel to the Seavey homestead and experience IdidaRide's Sled Dog tour. At the end your driver will return you to your hotel, cruise ship or the Alaska Railroad depot. All local transportation and lunch are included in this package.
Welcome aboard the Seward Bus. Backcountry Safaris offers daily bus service between Seward, Anchorage, and Denali National Park. Along the way experienced drivers will share their Alaska knowledge, point out places of interest, make stops for photos and allow you to stretch your legs.
The Seward motorcoach service features a spacious, comfortable bus with large picture windows, lots of legroom and an on-board rest room.
Seward to Denali Park
Travel between Denali Park and Seward (Kenai Fjords National Park) in one day is possible on the Park to Park, Seward to Denali park bus. Northbound departing Seward at 10:30 am and arrives in Denali about 9:00 pm with a 1 1/2 hour break at the Anchorage Museum of History and Art. Admission to the museum is included with you bus trip. The museum is also a nice recommended restaurant for lunch.
Southbound departing Anchorage at 7:00 am, the Seward Express Bus is your connection for a Kenai Fjords National Park whale watching and glacier cruise from Anchorage. Recommended and for a little variety you can also take the Alaska Railroad Costal Class Train one-way.
This is also the connection for the Real Alaska Tour in Seward or for Cruise ships arriving and departing Seward.

We highly recommend that you purchase travel insurance. Travel insurance coverage can help with expenses for the unforeseeable such as lost baggage, trip delays, emergency evacuation, and cancellation due to illness. Newly furnished Birch Tree Cottage is a cute one bedroom cottage. Amenities include a queen size bed and a hideaway bed in the front room. The kitchenette features a stove and refrigerator and is stocked with tableware, utensils, pots, pans, coffee pot, and a microwave oven. For those that need to stay connected, free high-speed wireless Internet service is available. Town Of Seward The town of Seward, Alaska, located on the Kenai Peninsula at the head of Resurrection Bay, was founded in 1903 as a supply base for the construction of a railway to the Yukon Valley. Seward became an incorporated City in 1912

Seward's Folly On March 30, 1867, Secretary of State William H. Seward agreed to purchase Alaska for 7.2 million dollars. Critics attacked Seward for the secrecy surrounding the deal with Russia, which came to be known as "Seward's folly." They mocked his willingness to spend so much on "Seward's icebox" and Andrew Johnson's "polar bear garden."

Tsunami In Seward, a section of the water front slid into the Resurrection Bay due to the largest earthquake in North America in 1964. This created a local tsunami causing much damage and the spreading of oil which was on fire and floating on the water. About 20 minutes after this occurred, the first wave of the main tsunami arrived. The 12 fatalities in Seward were due to the local and the main tsunami. Seward earthquake photos.

Official Alaska Flag Still more than 30 years before Alaska was to become a state. Aleut student, thirteen year old John Bell (Benny) Benson, from Chignik and living in an orphanage in Seward, the Jesse Lee Mission Home won a 1927 contest to design a flag to represent the future state of Alaska. A roadside memorial park in Seward honors Benny Benson.

Location Seward is situated on Resurrection Bay on the east coast of the Kenai Peninsula, 125 highway miles south of Anchorage and is the gateway to the Kenai Fjords National Park. It lies at approximately 60.104170° North Latitude and -149.442220° West Longitude. The area encompasses 14.4 sq. miles of land and 7.1 sq. miles of water.

Weather Seward experiences a maritime climate. Winter temperatures average from 17 to 38; summer temperatures average 49 to 63. Annual precipitation includes 66 inches of rain and 80 inches of snowfall.
